Meeting Unjustified Criticism Head On

Over the years of being associated with Orrin Woodward, I have learned many success principles that have improved the quality of my life. The process of self-improvement and chasing my dreams and goals has been an exciting and challenging adventure. Along the journey, something happened that I wasn’t expecting…I found and began pursuing my God-given purpose. It was at this point that I learned perhaps one of the most important lessons regarding living a purpose-driven life…if you plan on doing something great with your life, expect criticism. In fact, the bigger your purpose, the bigger the criticism.

In today’s high-tech world, there is information and opinions on just about any topic imaginable just a few keystrokes within a search engine away. I think most of us realize that not every result within a given internet search is accurate and/or factual, but, there are always a few that really buy into the lies and false accusations that are posted by mean-spirited critics with very selfish intentions. Anyone that is pursuing their God-given purpose and planning on doing something big with their life should expect to attract critics more than the average person. My pursuit has proven to be no different.

Along the way, I have acquired a very outspoken critic by the name of Raquel Peters. Her recent barrage of personal attacks through blog postings have been filled with lies, misinformation and half-truths that give a very skewed version of the truth regarding our past business dealings. As you would expect from a critic, Ms. Peters doesn’t use her real name in any of her postings. She just flings her false accusations and then runs and hides behind a shield of anonymity. Regardless of whether she has the courage or not to use her real name in her attacks, I have the courage to confront them head on because I have seen too many people with incredible potential for bright futures use her negative blog postings to make the decision to not get involved with the LIFE business.

I could tolerate the personal attacks if they only impacted me, but when they start negatively impacting the lives of innocent people who are simply looking for a better way, these attacks need to be confronted head on. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to “set the record straight” and address Ms. Peters’ inaccurate representation of the facts in her blog postings.

Before specifically addressing Ms. Peter’s attacks, I want to provide you with a great article written and posted by J. D. Bentley, titled, “How to Handle Criticism Like a Millionaire”. In this article, Mr. Bentley does a great job of addressing the topic of criticism and “sets the stage” for the rest of this article. Please click the link and read Mr. Bentley’s article before continuing.

As Mr. Bentley stated in his article:

A Justified Criticism will typically be given:
– with the utmost respect.
– by someone who is considered to be an expert in the subject.
– by several different people, usually without their knowing one another.
– with good intentions.
– by someone who has reasonable standards.
– with an accompaniment of possible solutions.

As far as justified criticisms, we are all human and we make mistakes. In fact, when a person is pursuing their purpose and building communities of people, they will probably make more mistakes than the average person…I am no different. I have made and will continue to make mistakes. The important thing to ask yourself when someone makes a mistake is where was the person’s heart when the mistake was made.

If the heart was sincere and focused on what is best for the other person, give the person some grace and address it using “conflict resolution” principles. If the person’s heart was selfish and manipulative, address it immediately, but more importantly, you may want to evaluate whether association with this person is in your best interest.

Here’s my personal policy regarding justified criticism: If anyone ever has an issue that is a justified criticism of me, please let me know right away. I will apologize and do whatever I can to resolve the issue.

Mr. Bentley further states in his article:

An Unjustified Criticism will typically be given:
– with little to no respect or courtesy.
– with an arrogant or condescending attitude.
– without any significant problem stated.
– without any helpful insights if a significant problem is stated.
– by someone who has accomplished little or nothing in the way of what you consider to be success.
– by someone with unreasonably high standards that they don’t even apply to themselves.

It is the topic of unjustified criticism that the remainder of this article will focus and how it specifically relates to addressing Ms. Peters’ personal attacks once and for all. Please know that the reason for this blog post is to get the truth out since it is very apparent that Ms. Peters feels it necessary to continue her personal attacks and negatively effecting people’s lives. British statesman Edmund Burke said it simply and accurately, “Evil flourishes when good men do nothing.” My normal stance on criticism is to “take it with a grain of salt”, but Ms. Peters’ statements and representation of the facts are completely erroneous and her selfish intentions with her negative attack campaign needs to be stopped…it’s time for a good man to do something.

Ms. Peters’ Unjustified Criticism: People were “stolen” from her organization and upline leaders supported it.

My Response: At the time of this so-called “theft”, Mona Vie was our business and provided content (product) and commerce (compensation). TEAM provided support materials and an educational system to help build communities of people who would utilize Mona Vie as a business. Since Ms. Peters has referenced the same criticism to both Mona Vie and TEAM, I will address each separately below:

Mona Vie:

As you may know, prior to joining Mona Vie, Orrin Woodward was issued a “gag order” subpoena and could not talk to anyone for approximately 225 days and people associated with TEAM were required to honor a 6-month non-compete clause that was in place from a previous business affiliation. The expiration of the non-compete clause and eligibility to register with Mona Vie varied from person to person based upon when the individual resigned from their previous business. Because of incredible loyalty, commitment and very tight personal bonds, the majority of the people (approximately 90-95%) who were going to register with Mona Vie had their non-compete clause expire and became eligible for registration within a week or so of each other. This group of people were working with myself, Renee Oettinger and George Guzzardo. It is important to know that people in this group walked away from a lot of bonus money by resigning when they did, but because they had character and integrity, they resigned instead of remain with a company whose business practices were questionable, regardless how much money was owed them.

Conversely, there was a small group of people (approximately 5-10%) who’s non-compete clause didn’t expire until 2-4 weeks later, even longer in some cases. This group of people were working directly with Ms. Peters and the reason their expiration date lagged behind the larger group is because Ms. Peters delayed submitting her resignation from the previous business because she selfishly wanted her bonus, regardless of how it was going to effect the others that trusted and followed her. As non-compete clauses began to expire in the larger group, Ms. Peters now started to realize the impact her selfish actions had on the group of individuals who were working with her.

Now, to save face, Ms. Peters launched a “loyalty” campaign and wanted her entire organization to wait the additional 2-4 weeks for everyone to be eligible to register with Mona Vie. She wanted to penalize and delay the 90-95% loyal and committed people who were ready to build a Mona Vie business right away because the 5-10% that she lead weren’t eligible because of her selfish actions six months earlier. In fact, she deliberately withheld information from her team by never informing them that if their non-compete clause had expired, they could get registered right away. This became very apparent when people from her teams started calling me and questioning what was going on. When I informed them that they could get started right away, they were shocked.

It was at that point that the 90-95% of her team who was eligible to be registered in Mona Vie told me that they did not want to wait for the others and that they wanted to be registered immediately. I informed Ms. Peters of her team’s wishes and she argued and insisted on waiting the additional 2-4 weeks for the remaining 5-10% to become eligible. Her teams confirmed with me again that they are not waiting and they wanted to be registered immediately. To add to the tension, we were working against a registration deadline (I know some will argue that there was no deadline, but I was just working with what I was told). Unsure of how to proceed, I tried calling John Morgan 5-6 times in an effort to try and find a solution to this impasse, but each time there was no answer. With every attempted call, I left a message explaining how urgent it was that I talk with him regarding this situation.

Since Mr. Morgan hadn’t return my calls and Orrin couldn’t talk to anyone because of the subpoena, I then called Jill Guzzardo and explained the situation. After a lengthy conversation discussing potential options and what was best for everyone involved, we established a game plan to start registering everyone. I called Ms. Peters and reiterated again how her teams did not want to wait and informed her as to the game plan that was about to be implemented for registrations. Ms. Peters responded by ranting that she could not believe that her upline was doing this to her and that we had no character and integrity. She then changed her password so we could not get people registered under her properly.

Attempting several times to call Ms. Peters to resolve this issue (she would not answer her phone), the decision was made by Jill Guzzardo to register everyone in her teams and temporarily attach them to me. Once everyone was registered, they would then be moved back under Ms. Peters in the correct locations. Ms. Peters finally returned my phone calls several hours later when we were well into the registration process and when I tried to explain to her what we were doing she exploded in anger and hung up the phone on me, never allowing me the opportunity to fully explain the whole plan. All she heard was that everyone was registered to me and that is when she lost control emotionally and hung up on me.

She did call back several times, but each time she was screaming obscenities over the phone and did not allow me a chance to get a word in before she’d hang up again. It was at this point that Mr. Morgan called me (approximately 24 hours after I left all my urgent messages), however, I was not available to answer my phone, so he left a message. My wife, Jennifer, played the message that Mr. Morgan left and she couldn’t believe how unprofessional and accusatory he was. Since my wife had a “front row seat” as to how this whole situation transpired, she knew his accusations in his message were incorrect and she refused to share it with me…erasing it before I could hear it.

Meanwhile, we continued with the registration process and by the end of the next day, Ms. Peters’ teams were registered, transferred back to her in the appropriate places, and she never missed a bonus payment. In fact, she collected approximately four additional weekly bonus checks because her teams were registered with the procedure that was used.

Here’s the sad irony regarding this whole situation, very few of the 5-10% Ms. Peters wanted to wait for ever did get registered once they became eligible. And the ones that did, never produced any results. So, to set the record straight regarding Ms Peters’ Mona Vie business, 100% of everyone who was eligible to get registered with Mona Vie was registered in the correct place, within the correct organization and Ms. Peters has made a lot of money from Mona Vie over the past 5 years. So if you ever run across a blog post from Ms. Peters that complains about how people were stolen from her Mona Vie business, please do not let her mislead you…she still continues to get a weekly bonus check from Mona Vie thanks to all her upline’s efforts.

As previously stated, TEAM is a support system to help individuals build communities of people who utilize Mona Vie as a business. TEAM would keep track of who was working with whom for the purposes of tracking business strength, communications, etc. Ms. Peters continues to claim that people were “stolen” within TEAM also, so please allow me to set the record straight here as well. Unfortunately, because of Ms. Peters’ short temper, vulgar language and unwillingness to resolve the Mona Vie issue discussed previously, we did not have any further communications between the two of us.

I then started getting reports from various team members within her organizations that Ms. Peters had been calling and/or meeting with them; harshly criticizing her upline and the TEAM office. She then informed them that she was no longer going to utilize TEAM as her support system for building communities. Instead, she was going to use another training system to help build her Mona Vie business. She did not call or meet with everyone on her team, but word of her decision traveled fast among the different groups. As a result, every one of her team members were faced with a dilemma…what to do next?

The majority of her team loved being a part of TEAM, they loved what TEAM stood for, and they all had bought into TEAM’s vision of going to a million people. Well, because Ms. Peters abandoned them, her team members did the only thing they could…reach out to their next upline leader for help. I was very impressed with the loyalty each of them had to TEAM. In fact, one of the team members that was impacted by Ms. Peters decision to discontinue using the TEAM support system was her own cousin, Tim Samuels. I want to share with you what her own family member had concluded based upon her actions and decision. Contrary to the latest misinformation being circulated, Mr. Samuels was NOT forced to write and submit this letter. The following is an excerpt from that letter Mr. Samuels sent to the TEAM office and has been included in this article with Mr. Samuels’ permission:

” In December 2008, the Peters told people on our team that they had decided to no longer participate in the Team System because of the direction that the Team was heading. The Peters are our sponsors and never once came to us to tell us of their decision. This has been the same path we have had with the Peters previously. They have never come to us with issues they have had with us. Instead, they have chosen to contact with people in our team that we had sponsored and/or were working with in depth. In some cases, this has caused those people to stop speaking to us and quit the Team. Several of those people we have worked directly with for several years only to have it all undone in one conversation the Peters. The Peters have offered these people nothing positive only negative and despair.”

“We would like to make it very clear that we are with the Team 100% and always have been. We got started with the Team in 2001 and have stuck through all the changes and have been excited about them. We have totally bought into the Team’s Goal of ONE MILLION PEOPLE! We would just like the opportunity to be directly linked to the Upline Support Team that we are working with in order to achieve our dreams and goals. They have always been there for us and we feel that this is the only way to be directly linked with them.”

These excerpts are from a letter Ms. Peters’ own cousin wrote that clearly states his position and why he feels the way he does. Some adjustments were made within the TEAM based upon Ms. Peters’ criticisms of upline, the announcement she was quitting TEAM, and individual requests like Mr. Samuels’ letter. It was at this point that Ms. Peters started ranting again about how people were stolen from her, how her upline was unethical, and that TEAM was evil.

I could never understand Ms. Peters’ thought process here…allow me to explain by asking several questions:

1) Is there any company in the world that would tolerate an associate who openly and aggressively criticizes and condemns its leaders and organization?

The answer is no, but let me explain what happened in Ms. Peters’ case. Orrin’s subpoena had expired and he was able to talk to people by this time. Once updated on the situation, Orrin realized that this whole thing was just a misunderstanding and could be fixed by applying conflict resolution principles. He knows we are all human and mistakes are made from time to time, so he reached out to Ms. Peters and offered his assistance to help her implement the conflict resolution process to resolve this matter and repair relationships. Ms. Peters refused his help and would not participate in any conflict resolution. Over the next three months, Orrin tried several times to work with Ms. Peters to resolve this issue, but she refused each time.

2) When an individual makes a decision (completely on their own) and publicly makes the announcement that they are quitting a company, should they still continue to receive future benefits from that company?

The answer is no, but allow me to expand further because, again, there is more to the story. Not only did Ms. Peters quit the TEAM training system, she announced her intention to start a separate training system that would be in direct competition with TEAM. So the real question regarding Ms. Peters situation should be restated as follows: When an individual makes a decision (completely on their own) and publicly makes the announcement that they are quitting the TEAM training system and starting a competitor training system, should they still continue to receive future benefits from the training system they left? No.

So, by her continuous refusal to resolve this conflict and her announcement of quitting TEAM and starting a competitor training system, I am confident that the facts show it was because of her own thinking, decisions and actions that her relationship with TEAM ended.

Throughout the course of my business involvement with Ms. Peters’, often times her thinking, decisions, and actions were questionable, not only by me, but by others as well. I would continually receive phone calls from various people who were working with Ms. Peters and they would inform me of how frustrated they were with her and that they needed my help and perspective. Over the years, this became a very common occurrence with a very common theme. I would always provide them with help because I wanted to see people win, but then when I started developing a better relationship with them than Ms. Peters had developed, I would quickly get accused of stealing her people and that I was unethical. Again, in an effort to set the record straight, I never once coerced anyone away from Ms. Peters. Every person that I provided assistance within her organization was because they reached out to me and asked for my help and guidance.

It is sad that a blog article has to be written to respond to a matter such as this; especially when the time could have been spent on producing an article that would help people succeed in life. But with all the misinformation that is out there from Ms. Peters, it was necessary. I hope that after reading this article you now have a better understanding of the facts and understand that Ms. Peters’ criticism that people were stolen from her organization and that her upline supported it is entirely untrue and without merit. Ms. Peters is a master at playing the “sympathy card” with people and getting them to believe her sad stories…I know…because I fell for it initially too.

I hope and pray everyday that Ms. Peters comes to peace with the unfortunate results of her actions and decisions and that she decides to end her negative attack campaign on her own. However, I want to be very clear, should she continue to feel it necessary to persist with her hollow accusations in any way (blogs, conversations, phone calls, texts, etc.), legal action will be initiated. I want to share this article with you regarding what can legally happen when someone is unjustly attacked on-line: “Texas Couple Awarded $13 million in Web Defamation Case”

In closing, I want to re-affirm my commitment to my current business partners and potential future business partners. My Name is Eric Blomdahl and I will do whatever it takes (legally, morally and ethically) to help people achieve their dreams and goals utilizing the TEAM system to build communities of people who tie into LIFE and/or Mona Vie. Please know that I am human and will make mistakes along the way…allow me the opportunity to make things right in those moments. If anyone has a question regarding any criticism that pertains to me, my actions, or my business, I would be more than happy to meet and discuss the matter in person.

Don’t let a critic get in the way of your dreams and goals!

God bless and have a great day!

    Hi Eric!
This post could not have come at a better time! The herd has been moving lately and they’re trying to run me over. My purpose and faith acted as my anchor and there was no way I was going to be trampled with that. Thanks for the insight!

Very well put Eric. This was an added on lesson to Chapter 2 (Character) that I just read in Resolved: 13 Resolutions for LIFE. Ryan and I both enjoy having you and Jen as our upline leaders and can’t wait to go to 1 million people with you! Much love from Team Action, down in Chicago!

Wow, Eric, we had no idea you were going through that. It just emphasizes how much character you have. To be as positive as you are, and a great teacher and mentor, all the while someone is defaming you, says more about you than words can describe.
    Blessings, Pat and Mary

Thanks for sharing your trials. It’s easy for us to think we are the only one with troubles and obstacles, but it really happens to everyone. Hang in there…the truth will always be found out. We appreciate you and Jen very much.
    Love, Don and Lisa

  5. Thanks for sharing Eric! I am sorry you had to deal with it and I am sure God put this on your plate so one day you can help others get through a similar situation. If we all take a moment to think and respond rather than react to a situation ….”if we seek first to understand before being understood” as Covey says, we wouldn’t have to deal with such heated topics. I hope Ms. Peters gets the message that this was done with no ill intentions and one day understands that there are a few people who do things from the heart. I trust you and my family trust you and that doesn’t happen unless you share from the heart! Thank you for sharing

I do recall this all unfolding years back when we were just getting started. It is sad that Ms. Peters has to defame others rather than taking responsibility for her actions. Only hurting people aim to hurt people…I pray for God to help her and the few others remove the hurt, lies and deceiptful outcries that are within them. We know the truth and witnessed her lack of character first hand. This is why we have aligned ourselves with the Samuels, you guys and the Guzzardos as friends and business partners. Through the years of business transformation you all have selflessly served us with the utmost character and integrity. THANK YOU for holding stong when others were weak, lacked character and tried to decieve. We support you and will combat any negative garbage with fact as we move forward.

    God Bless,

First, my smartphone isn’t letting me get to the bottom of this window, so please make sense of my ending, thanks!

Wow Eric, I had no idea things were still going on like this. My husband and I were a part of Team throughout all if this and were working with a couple who were directly working with Ms. Peters. All I want to add is that I had a phone conversation with Ms. Peters during the times you wrote about in which she bashed the Team and Mr. Guzzardo. I questioned if I should remain with Team. My husband and I talked and prayed about it. We decided to stay with the Team based on Ms. Peters’ lack of character displayed in other situations prior to the “mess” you describe. We had to look for the next upline who was also staying with Team. We have been so blessed by our choice! My husband and I have a better marriage than we would have ever had, we are better parents, and we have learned how to manage our finances so well that we are no longer $15,000 in debt on credit cards and so I can stay home to raise our 3 children.

Thank you for all you do!
    God Bless,

    • Eric, your character has always preceded your actions. Your confidence and courage, given by the Holy Spirit living in you, will ripple through the generations to come. If it weren’t for you serving your team night after night, week after week, my mentor and friend, Dan Hawkins, would not be where he is today. Dan paid that forward to Michelle and I which we go out night after night to pay it forward to the next person. Thank you for your example and may God continue to give you courage and wisdom as you live your life to glorify Him. Godspeed!

Same with us! I would not be able to stay at home with our two girls and have community support through the death of our first child if it wasn’t for people like Eric that have the courage to stick with it! Thank you!

      • Miriam, thanks for your comment. It’s important for people to know the truth, because the critics will sure spread what’s not true.

After reading this blog post and Dan Hawkins blog post, I am completely blown away at the true strength of character that the LIFE leaders display as everyday habit in their lives. When I got started, it was completely on faith and everyday, my faith in this opportunity is proven stronger and stronger.

Thank you Eric for your continued efforts! You are very appreciated! 🙂

Thanks for the article, Eric. I am shaking as I read it because our Wisconsin team (completely crossline of Ms. Peters’) was directly effected and blown out by her. I didn’t realize until now. What I do know is the verbiage you quoted here is what our team told us. And I know she did house meetings in our team. Her selfish actions have most likely hurt many more people and friendships than she will ever know. Thanks for all you do. God bless you. Heidi

“People of integrity expect to be believed, when they aren’t, they let time prove them right!” Thanks for setting the record straight Eric. Thank you for standing up to this over the years, so that we all may have a chance to have the life we’ve always wanted. My family is grateful!

    God Bless!

    • Kevin – that is the same quote that came to my mind as I finished reading this article as well. Clearly the person of character has been revealed!

Eric- It is amazing to see someone go through (and apparently – continue to go through) this kind of situation and still have such a great attitude like you do! Thank you for the great article about criticism and for being a great example to plow forward with a great attitude!!

    • Thanks Kevin for taking the time to comment…greatly appreciated.

  12. Eric,

Thank you so much for this article. It shows us how strong and couragous you and Jen are. I am blessed to know both of you. I am 100% with the TEAM and sorry that anyone has to go through this kind of situation

  13. Eric,
Thanks for sharing the truth for others to see and understand. Penny and I knew there were issues but had no idea just how bad they had gotten. One could take a leadership lesson in FTM (follow the money). Thank you and Jen for having the right heart that you spoke of. You are leaders of character that we will continue to follow.
    God bless

  14. Eric,
It is interesting to me that some people have confused private property with opportunity. Ms Peter’s had an opportunity to build lasting business and personal relationships that would yield success in so many areas, but failed to see that. As implied in our Constitution, people are not property of anyone save the Creator himself; and as stated in my personal (yet widely-shared) Christian faith, people are gifts. When wearing a “money lens”, it becomes apparent how the confusion even happens: you see people more as economic entities and less as beautifully-designed mind/body/spirit beings. Ultimately, Ms. Peters is struggling with a spiritual issue and perhaps could be beneficial to each of us as a reminder to never put this lens on no matter what our goals in this community are.
Secondly, there is great opportunity here for believers! If we were to agree that a conversion of Raquel’s mind and heart would bring glory to God, then let more of us join you in praying for that! The greatest joy in conflict resolution is restoration of the heart. Eric, Jen, your steadfastness and integrity, your heart and character pave the road for that possibility, and God alone can turn a heart of stone to one of tender flesh. What if?
Thank you for being incredible leaders,
    Leah Stadel

I thank you for your loyalty to TEAM, Orrin Woodward, George Guzzardo, and into my team thru Dan and Lisa Hawkins. TEAM stands for character, integrity, morals, and ethics grounded firmly in biblical principles and leadership. I thank you for being rock solid in what you believe in. You and Jennifer both shine like a beacon of light on a dark night. I thank you for your leadership. I thank you for your perseverance thru all the changes, and the criticism. Eric, I feel honored to be part of a business where people come together to learn and grow as a community. I can see how TEAM’s system has positively affected everyone that posted above based on their comments. We truly are blessed to have such a robust system that is grooming future (and current) leaders. Sometimes, when I’m out building this business, I feel like I’m the only one that is dealing with people that want to bring you down just so they feel better. People will knock you down in life – everyone gets knocked down. But how quickly do you get back up? From your article I would guess that you weren’t down for very long….

Thank you for everything that you do for THE TEAM, OUR TEAM and the future community that we’re all building together on our way to ONE MILLION PEOPLE!

Thanks Eric for your professionalism, maturity and character. I am proud to be in business with you and Jen. This country needs more leaders like you! Let’s continue to pray for Ms. Raquel Peters as she is obviously a hurting woman with a heart poisoned by greed and pride. Hurting people hurt people, for sure. In the meantime, thanks for spreading the truth and helping innocent people have the opportunity to work for their goals and dreams. Michelle Mielke

  19. Thanks for sharing. Your attention to detail in writing this blog post is impressive, and it is clear that God is giving you grace to deal with this situation as carefully and professionally as possible. Take care.

  20. Thanks for your courage and integrity Eric! Your perseverance has helped and continues to help build freedom into thousands of lives across this country and even internationally! I’m especially thankful for our line of sponsorship that began with your effort: Hawkins, Leurquin, Knuteson, Severson, Sager and many young (and not so young) leaders on the TEAM being developed in the Sager organization.

Eric, Thanks for all you do! I appreciate the post. Your honesty and integrity are very apparent in the article.
